How to Make Simple Syrup

Here is the basic simple syrup recipe.  When infusing simple syrups this basic recipe will be the same in each recipe.  It is equal parts water and sugar.  Although the other ingredients will vary depending on your choice of additives, the water and sugar will always be equal.

This Simple Syrup recipe is, well very simple.  You simply boil water and add sugar.  Ok, there is a recipe for the exact measurement and you will find it below.  Simple syrup is used in many ways.  From cocktails to cakes, you’ll find recipes that call for simple syrup in many different forms.

Some variations include: Lavender, Rosemary, Lime and Mint, etc.

Ingredients

  • Water 2 cups
  • Sugar 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan heat 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Approximately 3-5 min.
  2. Once water is boiling add 2 cups of sugar. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Heat 3-5 minutes. The longer you heat it the thicker it becomes when cooled.
  4. Let cool to room temperature.
  5. Once cool mixture is ready to use. You can bottle any unused portion in a sealed container and refrigerate for up to 1 month.

How to Store your Simple Syrup

After your syrup has cooled for at least 30 minutes you can then strain the mixture into an airtight container or a glass jar and place in the refrigerator.  When storing infused simple syrup  you will want to first, strain the mixture through a sieve or cheesecloth to remove any pulp and then store in airtight container or glass jar.

With your syrup sealed well in a container or jar it will last in the refrigerator for up to one month.

This sugar-free simple syrup recipe is made with the artificial sweetener Stevia.  If you prefer you can use an alternative sweetener such as sweet-n-low  or equal.  It is so easy to mix up and a better choice of sweetener if you are watching your sugar intake.
